The 3-in-1 cradle I have for my HTC Touch Pro allows me to connect to the USB port on my car. This allows the stereo to control the music without any issues as well as charging the phone from the USB port. The phone is also connected to the cars built in Bluetooth Hands Free kit, which pauses the music on an incoming call. The car also allows voice-dialling which is pretty handy.

I've not tried and android device with the USB port yet, and my iPhone 2G just won't work with it at all, but Sue's iPod (3rd gen??) does without issue as well.
