You need to get the .apk file onto your phone somehow, usually by plugging it into your PC and setting it to disk drive mode. Your SD card then shows up as an extra drive on your PC. Copy the file across (the root directory is fine), then use a file manager application like ES File Explorer or similar to open the file. It will then install onto your phone (you might also need to check you are allowing installation of non-market applications by hitting the menu button then Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources checkbox).
Hopefully this helps, let us know if you still have any problems or my instructions are unclear.

Another way of getting it on to the phone is download it from the developer at the Gowerpoint web site using your phone's browser. Then follow Ommadawn's excellent instructions.

I had report of browsers renaming the APK file to a zip file. For some reason. If you rename it back is should install fine (I had report of that too

For myself, the easiest method is to use a QR Code image like the attached PNG file.
Why not just upload uBook into the market?
- Download Google Goggles via the market.
- Scan the provided QR code and click the link to initiate the download in the browser.
- Open the file with the package manager to install.
Why not just upload uBook into the market?

Thanks for this! I will check out the market when I get the time. I am a bit afraid of being inundated with installation issues. Maybe I am just paranoid...
Oh, I just realized something. The link probably points to the old release (r0a), while the new release (today March 10, r0d) will be ignored... Could you create a new link link. Pretty please!
I have changed my way and will always change the link name but keep using the same name for the APK. So from now on:
uBook 2011 r0d for Android 1.5
and
uBook 2011 r0d for Android 1.6+
