My HTC Sensation went back to 02 for repair because of dust under the screen.

The online repair status has been stuck at "awaiting parts" for a few days and has now changed to "on its way back" and the status shows "02 swap process"

Does this mean i am getting a new phone ?

It would make sense to me - see what the IMEI number is when it returns.

My Samsung Galaxy S II must have been repaired as the front was new, the back was the old and the IMEI was the same....

Sounds likely to me, so you may even get the new Os on it as well :)

Grin you can hope :)

You have to go into the market and redownload / install. Or the Sense account may well re-load them for you. That process with Sense works for me half of the time. Apps that are free of coursed it will not show in your 'My Apps' section of the market, so you will have to look up your 'install list' and search / buy them again manually.

You do have an install list noted......... ? :)

Well i got a new phone this morning.

Spoke to the repair centre who said that a replacement phone will be sent out soon and just as they were on the phone, the 02 shop rang to say my phone had arrived back from repair.......

Went down to the shop and its a new Sensation in a plain 02 cardboard box all shrink wrapped and complete with new back cover and battery ( so these are now spares ). Examined it very carefully before accepting it and it appears to be brand new or very, very low mileage - no sign of use on the USB port or headphone socket.

Software is Android 2.3.3 (sigh) and its prompting me already to say an update is available....so will do that later. All my apps are back in and its all spiffy again - with one exception which i need you guys to pool your collective greatness over. !!

When i sent the phone in for repair, i was expecting to loose my SMS messages, but found an option somewhere which said "do you want to save your messages to SD card ?" so i said yes and i have on the SD card a folder called "\SMS_backup" which has a file in it.

But.... i cant for the life of me remember which app or option i used to do this. I am sure i didnt download a specialised app and the 2 obvious candidates are ES file explorer or Astro file explorer, both of which are still there, but they dont recognise the file.

Help !!!! - the backup file itself is named simply after the date of backup and i cant find any other clues. I do remember being pleasently surprised to be offered the backup option at the time, so it must have been an option in some sort of utility program or an option that was natively within the o/s or the messaging app, but i cant find anything. Forget all that - i just applied the Android 2.3.4 update and the "backup SMS" menu item has now appeared in the messaging app - and it was able to succesfully restore all my messages from the backup file - Yay !!

Aye - i was missing the Sensation.

the HD2 was doing a good job as stand in, but it served to highlight just how "quaint" WM 6.5 is - even with Sense on top. Android is a lot more integrated.

I'll agree with that 100%, saying that though my HD2 is running a NAND Android ROM in any case. :)
