Grabbed a HTC Sensation XL before the weekend and it's definitely the device for me.

The screen is simply amazing for watching videos and reading the odd ebook or article.

I've been running it stock over the weekend, which is pretty rare for me, and am impressed with the stock firmwares stability and speed and would have kept it that way for the forseeable future apart from hitting a slight snag.

I popped over to htc's bootloader unlocking website and everything went exactly to plan except one tiny detail which is either not included or i failed to see/read.

UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER HARD RESETS YOUR DEVICE

Pretty irritating as the reason I wanted to unlock it was to install a custom recovery and take a back up.

Anyway other than losing a couple of days texts and phone calls not really a major issue as the device is currently redownloading all my apps and settings etc.

So now once that's all done i'm going to take a back up and try a few of the custom roms that are floating around. Might have to try and cook my own as there are only 4 to choose from at present.

The case and screen protector have appeared now to so i can use it in anger now too :-)

Hmmm news to me that the unlock caused a hard reset!

Good luck with the usage!

it seems it's a pretty well documented part of the process so my own fault

just flashing a custom rom on it so will have a play and chuck a post up about it in due course :-)

Right, will have to remember that one myself for the future then!

Be interesting to see how the ROM changes your thoughts, what have you gone with? CM7 or a Sense variant?

There's no cm build for it at the moment so I've gone for a sense Rom.

Seems pretty impressive so far. Quite heavily skinned but pleasantly surprised how well it integrates

Hmm a bit too blue for me I think. How stable are you finding it?
