Set a static IP on the PC itself in network settings and use MAC addressing within the router to assign that same static IP address to the PC when it sees that MAC address.

NeilM - followed the instructions on the two web links you mentioned... I think I have configured it all up... do I need to go through all this with the other remote p.c. or should it work with just mine done?

If the remote request is coming from the other PC it should be OK.

Strangely has worked the opposite way - works only if I request assistance from her but reports DNS error when she tries to initiate remote assistance from me... looks like am going to have to faff around with static IP setting and port forwarding on her system which will require me to physically go to her pc. Going on memory her router is not very good and certainly the router's firewall was factory set as non-user changeable so hopefully it will still allow the port forwarding...

Plus a bit of Googling normally results in turning up an Admin password for most routers so fingers you should be able to get in and tweak.
