Also does the O2 version come in the same box as the retail sim free HD2?

o2 contract phones are normally the same as the manufacturer boxes, so i'd assume it would be the same as the sim free box.

Cheers thanks for the reply, cant wait to get hold of one.

That pinkinsh blob in the pictures looks like a fault, did you try pressing O2 on this?

Hi DMAND and welcome over! I'm pretty sure the pictures were taken using a previous test ROM, I haven't noticed it in the release version. The camera can be set up for all types of lighting conditions too. :)

Strangely enough with the release ROM I get a bluish tinge to the pictures, mind you it could be the light at this time of year. I'll take some new pics when I get decent weather!

Boz you want to post some you've taken in the thread?

great detailed review!  I'm very much looking forward to the video(s)...

you've had this thing a MONTH???  I am just unbelievably crazy jealous, especially being that it won't make its way to the US for months.

it was helpful in your review when you mentioned the specific cases where the normal O2 features (headset controls, software) were missed.

I wish the HTC Sense/Touchflow offered more personalization of the home screen - such as choices for the clock and an option to increase the number of shorcut choices from 9 to 12/16 using small icons).

I was interested in what you said about it being a great ebook reader.  I'm looking forward to that for sure, and even hoping a Kindle/Stanza app will hit WinMo soon. I'd still like to hear what the PDF reader was like, if you had an opportunity to use it.

Also still a bit curious about how the capacitive screen works out with non-touch-friendly apps.  My biggest concern is my tasks app (from MyLifeOrganized.net), which relies heavily on checkboxes and small tabs at the bottom of the screen.  And second is if the capacitive screen is practical to use with Remote Desktop.

Thanks again for the review and for working in all the questions from all of us!

Nice review but I have a question about this statement under system information:

"Keep support Multi-Touch capability for WM7 Chassis 1"

Where did this informaition come from? Is it inferring that the HD2 will run WM7? Has HTC or O2 announced that the HD2 will be upgradable to WM7 and will actually receive an upgrade?

Great review, but I'd just like to correct something.

There's been a lot of rumours about the missing 'owner' settings. Well, as I was browsing through the registry to find the way to restore the owner settings icon, I stumbled upon the owner info keys themselves. Guess what: they were already filled in correctly.

Magic?

The phone uses the info entered in the 'me' business card in the contacts app to provide device owner info. Just an example of the attention to detail that went into this thing.

I registered Resco Explorer, which uses the owner name for registration, just fine. Did any of the reviewers actually try this?? Maybe they should, and update the review accordingly. The thought of not being able to register 3rd-party applications may worry a lot of people.

Long story short: the owner info setting is not missing and you can easily register older software.

Yes it is inferring the HD2 will run WM7 as the chassis and screen meet WM7's requirements, and the information came from a trusted source. It will be around a year before WM7 is released so I doubt the HD2 will get an upgrade, but you never know! :)
