Hmm very jealous! Is this your own holiday cottage Neil?

I wish :)

We've been going to the same place in Umbria since 2008 so we like to think of it as a second home!

I forgot to add Porcupines and Wild Boar to the wildlife we have seen there!

Although we haven't seen any, there are also European brown bears and wolves in the forests of the region.

The wildlife list looks impressive but bear in mind that sightings can be very rare- some years we see nothing exotic at all. Last year was the first time we've seen the Badgers and the previous year foxes. We saw the porcupine once going up the drive late at night but often find quils in the garden.

Of course the climate that promotes these creatures also promote mosquitoes, horseflies, ants, snakes, wasps hornets and other less welcome inhabitants!

Humph, I'll skip on the bears and wolves then LOL. Mind you it would be cool to see wolves! I'd not fancy any of those other inhabitants though!

Probably best to stay in UK and concentrate on the birdlife :)

Seeing Red Deer stags up close is a bit intimidating too. I was walking with a friend near Lochnagar and one stuck its head up from the heather no more than 10 metres away. Fortunately he walked the other direction rather than charging us! Also nearly hit a Red Deer female when mountain biking - she came out of the trees on a narrow path and I was doing about 20mph. That wouldn't have been fun either....

Also going skiing on my own one day, I was taking a very small back road through to the Lecht and nearly hit a Golden Eagle that was eating some road kill when I came round the corner. I nearly sh!t myself when it more than filled the windscreen when it took off - much wider than my Mk II Escort at the time! We just cleared one another....

LOL such joy interacting with the wildlife. Biggest near miss we had was with a red kite when it decided it'd drop down on us while we were holidaying in the 207CC (roof down)..... it turned off when it was about 5-6 feet above us!

We have a blackbird now sitting in her nest waiting for her eggs to hatch in our clematis. It's perfect cover for her though as it's hard to see her close up as the clematis is growing like crazy at the moment and we don't want to disturb her. We felt sorry for her the other night as temperatures plunged to near freezing. :)

We were around Packwood House today and for the first time since I was a kid we heard a cuckoo singing. Took me way back!
