In the 'Nougat' thread I mentioned my current fave Android launcher, SquareHome 2, just to give folks an idea of how it looks here is what it looks like in operation (as I've configured it):

SquareHome2_scr.jpg

From left to right:

  • My Home screen. Note custom colour tiles, translucency etc
  • My Expanded navigation tile
  • Swipe right to my apps list. Does not need be a page, it can run from a tile
  • Swipe right again to my contacts list. Again it does not need be a page, it can run from a tile
  • Swipe right again to my widgets page.
  • Swipe right again to return to my home page.

Very light in operation, and works wonderfully with inbuilt tiles (folder tile, cube tile, blank tile, spacers, etc) In app widgets such as contacts, apps, photos etc. Of course it can use Android widgets as you can see.

It is very impressive!

And as I love the app so much here is how I've created my tiles within it.

  1. Dark skies widget
  2. Chronus Pro calendar widget
  3. UK Weather widget (Met Office source)
  4. Standard SquareHome2 'tiny tiles' group. The bottom two tiles are SH2 search contacts, and unlock/lock screen editing
  5. Standard SquareHome2 folder holding all my Samsung related apps
  6. Standard SquareHome2 'cube' holding 6 contacts, spins in all axes
  7. Chronus Pro 'Dash' widget holding Dashclock extensions; Sunrise/set, Feedly unread counts, email unread counts, SMS unread counts, Skype, Group me, etc
  8. Play Book - shortcut to my current book
  9. Standard SquareHome2 'tiny / half tiles' group.
  10. Standard SquareHome2 folder holding all my Social media related apps
  11. Standard SquareHome2 folder holding all my navigation related apps
  12. Standard SquareHome2 'photos tile' pointed to my camera storage folder (fully animated similar to W10M)
  13. Metrogram  weather app widgets

Fonts are the white icon pack and Lines packs

Works so very well for me! This combination has REALLY got me loving Android!

That looks fantastic - i will have to give it a go.

Such a tragedy, that this is what WM10 could have been if MS had really thrown sufficient time / money / resources at wooing the app developers, to make WM a no-brainer platform for app development.

Tell me about it. I've experimented with tiled launches before but this really seems to crack it. One thing I noticed last night that if a notification contains text (like on Facebook) then the SH2 will also show the text from the notification as if it was a live tile. Even better!

As you say this gives you a wonderfully 'MS' front end and really brings Android to life and makes it so much more usable.

If you do decide to give it a go and need a bit of help getting there with the widgets (if you go down my route) then yell out. And of not then just share your design. I forgot to mention that SH2 also includes dividers and blank tiles etc, so you can really construct exactly what you want to achieve.

Have downloaded and had a quick play, its certainly comprehensive and customisation !!

Might take me a little time to find my way around it all.

Grin play nicely it took me about 4-5 days to root out all the bits and pieces as to how it worked. The on top of that of coursed you have the Android widgets to incorporate.....

Updated this morning with a lot of bug fixes and new features. Folder Tiles now carry notification counts from sub-tiles and when opening a tile the animation / effect is now exactly as on W10M. Loving it!

Now all I would need is an Android version of Continuum and I'd be away.
