Web Browsers....... ?

19 posts in this topic

Guys a bit of a thought / query as to what Web Browsers you use. My needs are:

  • XMarks / Lastpass must be supported
  • Ad Guard should be supported
  • Preferably gesture extension to click / drag links to open in a background tab.

I've been using Firefox for years, or Cyberfox at work. Looking into other browsers I've found:

  • Vivaldi (chrome based) - Works okay, BUT there is a problem opening links in a tab as the focus is lost when the link opens / or the wrong page is opened. Also has some serious issues with the X Marks plugin which causes account corruption.
  • Yandex (chrome based) - Russian based (which worries me a bit) - can use the XMarks (via the load Chrome extension, erm extension) / Lastpass pluggins, the problem is no gesture extensions (from Chrome) work at all.
  • Chrome - due to the Google-isation I'm reluctant to try it.
  • Opera (chrome based) - can use the XMarks (via the load Chrome extension) / Lastpass plugins, the problem is no gesture extensions (from Chrome) work at all. Plus their support team admit there are a lot of problem with gestures. As a work around hitting the middle mouse button will open in a new background tab. Opera scores in that it has a built in VPN and feels very clean.
  • Edge - no XMarks so out immediately.

So it looks like I'm either staying with Firefox or may move on towards Opera.

Anyway what do you guys use and why?

Chrome. It works. If you really are that concerned about data and privacy on the Internet then the only real solution is to stay off the internet.

Well I've actually switched to Opera for the moment, based on Chrome but with a lot of useful extras.I'll see how it works for the last few days.

And after experimenting it looks like 'Yet Another Drag and Go' as an extension solved all my 'drag link' issues in both Opera and Chrome (yes I installed it - backup browser though).

So I'l continue to see how Opera performs against Firefox.

I still love Firefox but I'm not happy in the direction they are going....

You could go DuckDuckGo only but it's pretty basic.

Chrome. Edge & Opera here... Although mainly Edge lately. But I don't use add-ins or extensions a great deal.

I'd be lost without my extensions, XMarks is the one I can't live without!

I'm finding that Edge is syncing my URL's. I've just gone to a new PC and boom they're on here.
